How to build toy drive in a border collie?

My border collie only will tug if its a brand new toy or one that belongs to another dog outside of our house.....I wanted her to be a agility dog ,but she would need a toy drive for better success any help on it she has like 30 toys. How to build toy drive in a border collie?Tug of war is great! My dog loves it and so do I.

Tease him with the toy as much as possible, you can even tie him up while you run around and play with the toy. Play with the toy with other dogs too. Find a toy that he would like, buy it, play with it with him and put it away when he is high in drive. This is going to be your toy, the one that you bring out and play with, then put away.

Chase games are also really good for creating high toy drive. Run away from your dog with the toy in your hand and put it in his mouth when he is getting really excited. You can also chase your dog while he has the toy in his mouth, my dog loves this. Dont worry about ruining the recall if you are chasing him- chase only works if you are involved so he will be looking at you for fun times. Lots of fun times when the toy comes out, and boring when the toy is not there.

Anytime your dog is excited (like when you first get home) is a great time to play with the toy.

Building play/toy drive is all about having fun and playing when the opportunity presents itself.

Check out a book called Schutzhund Obedience- Training in Drive by S.Booth. This is not the way I train my dogs but I have used their method to create drive in my dog.

So, we've made a slide ( or a Wee as she calls it) out of her crib mattress that she no longer uses. Prop mattress up on the couch = instant slide.....LOL

My other son goes for his ball pit.

Why does my shih tzu always walk around with his stuffed toy in his mouth?

My dog always has his stuffed animal in his mouth and just lays there staring out the window, or even walks around with the toy stuck in his mouth. Is this normal dog behavior or the sign of a nervous disorder? Why does my shih tzu always walk around with his stuffed toy in his mouth?Maybe he just loves his toy so much that he can't bear to leave it! :)Why does my shih tzu always walk around with his stuffed toy in his mouth?
Your dog is acting just fine. Many dogs become attached to a particular toy. They are like children, and they can get attached to a certain toy. All of my dogs have a favorite toy. 2 of them carry their toy around with them, like your dog. They do that because they are attached to it and they don't want anyone else to get it, so they keep it with them. 1 of my dogs, her favorite toy is a bunny toy. She will even take it with her when she goes outside to use the bathroom,LOL. She drops the toy on the patio, goes and does what she needs to do and then on her way back inside, she grabs her bunny and runs inside the house. It's so funny!

Don't worry about your dog. He just has a close attachment to his toy. He keeps it close to him so others can't get it or doesn't want to lose the toy. Also, I do think it helps comfort the dog because it's something familiar and means a lot to them. It helps ease anxiety and they feel safe and loved. Best of luck with your dog. Hope I helped. Why does my shih tzu always walk around with his stuffed toy in his mouth?your dog is perfectly fine. he is just walking around with the toy in his mouth because he feels comfortable with it in his mouth.
