Is a toy dog also an unhealthy size for a dog?

I know teacup dogs have all those health issues and are sickly runts, but what about "toy" size dogs? Do they also have a large chance of getting illness's and can you get them from animal shelters to? And is there size dangerous for them also like teacups since they are like just above teacups on the size list? thx!Is a toy dog also an unhealthy size for a dog?"Teacup" dogs are generally considered to be unhealthy because they are born to unhealthy parents. Bad breeding leads to overall ill health and poor temperament.

Toy sized dogs have their share of health concerns, just as large breeds do. For example, many larger breeds are known to suffer from hip dysplasia. Many toy breeds are prone to tracheal problems, luxating patellas, etc.... Good breeders do their best to 'breed out' these known health concerns, by testing the parents and carefully selecting dogs from strong bloodlines to make a good 'match'.

Toy sized dogs are, generally, much more fragile than larger breeds. They can't handle the same rough-housing, etc, that let's say a Labrador could.

I hope this helps! Is a toy dog also an unhealthy size for a dog?
Toy breeds are not necessarily sickly, it's the very small, 3lbs and less runts that usually suffer. Is a toy dog also an unhealthy size for a dog?Nope it is just another standard breed size-toy,medium,large.

nothing to it.Is a toy dog also an unhealthy size for a dog?
No.

If you get them from a GOOD, REPUTABLE breeder then NO dog-regardless of size will have many health problems.

You can't get a teacup dog from a rep breeder because no rep breeder would intentionally breed a runt.

Actually, in my experience all the mutts I've had are much more sickly then my purebreds.

Since when does 'shelter' gurantee 'health'?Is a toy dog also an unhealthy size for a dog?Not Nessicarly, Toy Poodles are fine with health. The exact same with lots of other toy dogs.

Teacup Chihuahua's are adorable too. They don't have many health issues ever though they are Teacup =]
