Your dog is acting just fine. Many dogs become attached to a particular toy. They are like children, and they can get attached to a certain toy. All of my dogs have a favorite toy. 2 of them carry their toy around with them, like your dog. They do that because they are attached to it and they don't want anyone else to get it, so they keep it with them. 1 of my dogs, her favorite toy is a bunny toy. She will even take it with her when she goes outside to use the bathroom,LOL. She drops the toy on the patio, goes and does what she needs to do and then on her way back inside, she grabs her bunny and runs inside the house. It's so funny!

Don't worry about your dog. He just has a close attachment to his toy. He keeps it close to him so others can't get it or doesn't want to lose the toy. Also, I do think it helps comfort the dog because it's something familiar and means a lot to them. It helps ease anxiety and they feel safe and loved. Best of luck with your dog. Toy poodles are one of the best shorthaired dogs. Its proven that even people with allergies to dogs can own a toy poodle and not have a flair; also, they tend to not shed hardly any. I had one since I was 5 and it just passed away when I went away to college (she was 14 years old). Great dog with kids, likes to play a LOT!!

Whenever I give my Beagle her favorite toy, she immediately gets defensive. Anybody who walks near the dog is growled at. Petting her is putting yourself up at risk for a dog bite. Just a day ago, I was petting her on the head when out of the blue, she attacked me ferociously. I ended up with a decent sized bruise and two small holes on the top of my hand. I feel as if I'd have to give the dog away if she continues to keep this up. Do take the toy away when you can at a safe time, ie when the dog is not playing with it.



You should also start a Nothing In Life Is Free program. All that means is that the dog does nothing unless you give him permission and he does something first. So you feed you dog in the morning. You hold the food dish and tell you dog to sit ( if you dog does not know how to sit you need to teach this behavior.) You put the food on the ground, when you dog starts to lunge at it you pick it up. Don't say another word, just wait until you dog sits again. You may have to prompt a little or recue the word. Again start to put the food down. When the dog sits nicely you say okay and allow her to eat. If you think you dog may become aggressive with this activity then don't do anything until you get professional help with the food. But you can still tell you dog to sit before he goes outside, block him he is try to go out before you release him.



Letting dogs on the couch or in you lap does not make them aggressive, but your dog needs to sit and be invited up.



Also your dog needs more exercise. Take a walk for at least 20-30 min. If you already do that increase the amount of time you walk.



Train you dog to do basic obedience and tricks. Your dog is a resource guarder. Stopping this behavior requires some changes in your behavior - begin by understanding that your dog has given you fair warning about the toy. Growling means, "Leave me alone." This is meant to be taken seriously - and since you didn't, you got bitten.

Dogs do warn us before they attack. Lip licking, blinking, and yawning are all clear signs of nervousness and "Please stop what you're doing, I am uncomfortable." If these signs are ignored, the dog progresses to the next level of growling, moving stiffly, adopting defensive postures, and showing teeth. The next stage is biting.

You can counter this behavior by desensitizing her to you being around when she has her toy. Wait for her to settle with the toy, and be "armed" with chicken or other valuable treat. Something that she never gets at any other time would be good. Don't approach her enough to make her nervous - if that distance is 15 feet, you can still do this. Say, "Drop!" and toss the chicken all around her. Then, leave. Let her have all of those rewards for choosing to drop the toy.

Your goal is to be able to stand next to her and say "Drop" and toss the rewards - but don't move too quickly on this. Always work with your dog quietly, and never push her too far - watch and listen to her. If you see the old signals coming back, just leave. Try again later.

I strongly suggest a Google search for "Positive Resource Guarding Dogs" for other tips. I also suggest that a trainer would be good for both of you. Not a trainer who's going to hang your dog on a choke chain or give her electric shocks. You want a positive "clicker" trainer who is very experienced with aggressive dogs.

How can I indentify a Happy Meal toy from ~1985?

There are no details on the toy itself, and the wrapper is long gone. This particular toy is a tall bear figurine wearing a yellow jacket; he has his arms raised in a "V."

My dog discovered a stress ball that I got as a freebie somewhere and she LOVES playing with it! I think the squishy texture really entertains her. There other issues that need to be addressed but pay isn't one of them.

Why does my poodle whimper while chewing on a stuffed toy?

Lately my poodle randomly started doing this thing were he starts chewing/biting on a stuffed toy in one position for like 10-20 minutes while whimpering randomly. What could this possibly mean? The whole thing is that a toy has a magnet in it and you want to find the north and south poles without ruining the toy.How do you determine where the north and south poles are of a magnet in a toy without destroying the toy?The procedure you would follow depends on how the magnet is constructed. If it is a disk with a central hole, it may be magnetized with one pole on the outer edge and the other pole on the inner edge, like a loudspeaker magnet. Or one side of the disk could be one pole and the other side the other pole. If it is a horseshoe shaped magnet, the poles will be on the two ends, as if a bar magnet had been bent into a horseshoe shape. Of course a bar magnet would be the simplest configuration with the two poles on opposite ends of the bar. There are many other possible configurations. The bottom line is the toy designer may have designed the magnet and its magnetic circuit to minimize any external magnetic field. This can make it very difficult to “find” the magnetic poles.



Exploring the external magnetic field with a small pocket compass may give some insight as to where the poles are. if they are over 2 i would use the method of 2 minutes each, inform them that we share toys and to do this each can play with it for 2 minutes then pass it over to the other, time it and tell them when they can swap the toy over.
If the kids are under 2, remove the toy. If they are close to or older than 2 then you can expect them to share. See if you can determine who had the toy first, let that child have the first turn and set a time limit like 5 minutes. Make sure to let the child understand that when the time is up it is time to share with his friend. When the time is up, have the child give the toy to the other child. If he doesn't want to give it up, you'll have to take the toy and give it to the other child. If the first child gets too upset you may have to remove him from the situation until he can share and play nicely. My Schnauzer losses his mind when I take out his electric ball toy. It shakes and make all kinds of noises. ( Sirens, Beam me up, I am totally spaced out) I know it by heart because he will run around the house with this toy in his mouth, and his head shaking from it. The electric ball comes in a little stuffed animal, you can get from Walmart. I found it in the dog section. The stuffed animal part lasted about a week. So I took the ball out and now just through it inside of an old sock. I have even changed the batteries in it 2AAAs.

Peanut butter is fine for most dogs and is great for a kong. Unfortunately our puppy gets diahrea with even a little bit of peanut butter. We use the kong spray stuff and she loves that too.



You can stuff biscuits and kibble inside the kong and cap it off with peanut butter, then freeze it.

A trainer recently told me about freezing the Kong's.

Fill the center with that cheese that comes in a can, or peanut butter, and freeze it over night. It takes forever for them to get it out of the middle, but they taste it, so it keeps them occupied trying to get it out. She said that it's also GREAT for teething puppies, because it sooths their soar months, and gives them a treat at the same time.



Peanut butter doesn't hurt dogs, unless they are allergic to peanuts. Lots of trainers suggest it, as well as vets.
Peanut butter can give them diarrhea if you over do it.. I like to pack them with carrots, takes them a good long time to get them out.. By the time they do, they are exhausted and asleep.

i have never heard that peanut butter can kill a dog, it's fine to put that in the kong toy. but if you're worried, a piece of cheese, or you can go out and buy those, dog treats and put those in there, basically anything that smells good, to a dog i.e. meats, cheese, NOT flowery things that you and i find appealing.
i have never heard of peanut butter being bad and i give it to my dog in her Kong toy....i put some dog food in the peanut butter to....it keeps her occupied a little longer that way...they have jerky sticks that you can put in them too...
It's a good, healthy treat, just don't give it every day.

Another dog lover/breeder told me it was how she got her boxers up to weight, the extra protein helps them maintain a healthy weight if they are exceptionally active. I don't give peanut butter to my pug because he's not that active but at a good weight... my boxer gets a peanut butter treat once or twice a week... I also give meds with peanut butter. The vet told me about that trick.
It is fine to give dogs peanut butter. It does have a lot of fat so don't give them too much. They love it.



I put peanut butter and treats in my lab's kong. He loves it and it keeps them occupied for a while. I don't know how he gets those treats out of there, but he does.



If you are worried about it, just ask your vet for advice on dog treats. They should be more than willing to make some recommendations for your breed.

No I wouldn't be more inclined and I value the fact that I can change political parties and vote for persons from either party. This motivates me to research all candidates and choose whom I feel is best without worrying about the party.

Lather it in peanut butter and then roll it in dried corn, sunflower seeds, etc. Put it in the fridge and let it harden and, ta da, you've got a yummy chew stick!



Also you could try these yummy recipes I've come up with:



1. "Peanut Drops"- Freeze a few drops of peanut butter on a plate...when they are done they will be solid treats (not to be over given btw). (NOTE: No need to thaw before giving)



2. "Fruit Mash"- Put bananas, strawberries, peach, grapes, and blueberries (or basically any fruit you want besides citrus) into a bowl. Mash with fork (but not to an absolute pulp), drain juice, serve a little in the food dish at a time. (NOTE: You can cover the extra up with foil or plastic wrap and put it in the fridge to be served at a later date. Also do not blend in blender, this will basically make it a pulp, and it will not be able to be given to the hamsters)



3. "Peanut Crumblies"- Simply crush PLAIN peanuts into crumb-ish size and add to food. (NOTE: Peanut Crumblies are only to be added to regular food about once a week maximum or it will cause obesity)



4. "Ice peanuts"- If you have an ice tray (how you make ice cubes) put a single PLAIN peanut at the bottom of about half the empty cube holes, fill them with water, let them freeze. Give them to your hammy, they will have fun licking the cold ice (especially in the summer), and getting to the yummy peanut inside will be an extra treat, YUM! (NOTE: You might want to put the cube in some kind of water dish because it will melt and I don't know if you really want a watery mess all over. Also one cube at a time is just fine, it might be fun to see which hamster gets the peanut)
