On star trek why do they call aliens a different race instead of species?

I noticed on all versions of star trek series', they refer to aliens as "race" and not "species". I mean wouldnt they be a different species? Dosnt race refer to differences withen 1 species? On star trek why do they call aliens a different race instead of species?I think just because they are classifying "humanoid" as the species in general. On star trek why do they call aliens a different race instead of species?Actually, race means species. It is not used that way anymore, but, for instance, the original full title to Darwin's Origin of Species was On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection, or the Preservation of Favoured Races in the Struggle for Life. In his title, the use of the word race means species. The full title is no longer used because it can be confusing to modern readers.

I also think the term race is used on Star Trek to emphasize the fact that other sentient species are still considered people and have all the rights of other people, ie humans. Calling them another species all the time might seem too suggest that they were less than human, when they are actually just different than humans. On star trek why do they call aliens a different race instead of species?Race is a socially constructed term, so I'm guessing they refer to the aliens as different races to show how mundane and ordinary this is for them to interact with them by relating to us saying that these aliens are about as crazy and weird as the differences we notice between people of different races in our cultures.
