How can I turn off Star Office as my default word processor?

I recently purchased MICROSOFT office, but I had been previously using Star Office. I had set it for the default before my microsoft purchase, but now I would like to turn that off, so that Word 2007 is the default program. How can I do this? Thanks!!How can I turn off Star Office as my default word processor? As far as I know, there is no default word processor in Windows, only a specific program that handles .doc (old Microsoft Word document format) files.

Word 2007 should have set itself up as the application that handles .docx documents, but it may not have associated itself with the older .doc Word format documents. Try this:

In Windows XP:

1. In Windows Explorer, find a .doc file.

2. Right-click on it and select Open With.

3. If MS Word shows up, select it.

4. If it does not, click the Browse button. Navigate to the directory C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12. Find and select the file winword.exe.

5. In either case, check the checkbox Always use the selected program to open this kind of file.

6. Click OK.

In Windows Vista:

1. In Windows Explorer, find a .doc file.

2. Right-click on it and select Open With. If a menu pops up, select Choose Default Program.

3. Go to Step 3, above.

Hope that helps. How can I turn off Star Office as my default word processor? If you are running Microsoft Windows XP os, you can right-click the file in Explorer and put your mouse over "Open With..."%26gt; Choose Program.

It will give you a list of a bunch of closely-compatible programs. Click Word if it shows up, if not, choose Browse and find it. It should be in C:/ (or Default/Windows drive) Program Files/Office or something to that extent..

*Also I believe there is a check box that says something to the extent of "always use this program to open these files"--Make sure that is checked.

or you could uninstall Star Office under the Start Menu and restart your computer and it should ask you what program to use next time. How can I turn off Star Office as my default word processor?follow the advice given here
