How do you star in your own screenplay?

I just finished writing a screenplay recently. I plan on selling it to a producer. I would like to star in my own screenplay. I would like to play as the main protagonist. How would I do this? How do you star in your own screenplay? There are two ways of doing this.

1) Become a famous actor, THEN sell your screenplay and get the role written into your contract.

2) Make the film yourself.

No big film producer will risk millions making a film with a completely unknown actor in the starring role. They want actors that will get people into the cinemas, or at the very least, actors who they know can act.

And just for the sake of argument, if it happens that you ARE an up and coming actor with experience and a few small roles under your belt already... Ask your agent, not us. Your agent knows your experience and potential and can help make deals and get you jobs. The first thing you will need (after talent) if you intend to pursue this dream is an agent.
