It doesn't go as in depth about it in my book as I'd like it to. Can anyone help explain as to why the orbital period of a binary star depends on it's mass?
Thank you =]Why does the orbital period of a binary star depend on its mass? The orbital period is the amount of time it orbits until it collides with the other star, so the mass makes it harder for gravity to pull them together.
Imagine yourself spinning with a feather on a rope. now imagine you doing that with a lead ball on the end of the rope. Gravity will work harder with the lead.
